Yes, if you follow the etimology of the word, in long terms derive from the latin:

Mistress come from the French "Maitresse" (with mean female teacher, governess), and is the feminine of "Maistre" (master).

Both French "Maistre" "Maitre" and the italian "Maestro" are derived from the latin "Magister" (chief, head, director, teacher)
